I'm a Texan trapped in Oregon. A southern boy in the land of hippies. But no one's died from it...yet.
OK, the real stuff:
First and foremost, I'm a father. Nothing else matters more than that. I would not advise testing that statement, either.
Secondly, I'm a husband. Been married for eight years now, and still she lives. Trust me, that's a testament to patience more than anything else.
I'm formerly of the United States Navy. I served six years and am proud of my time in. I enjoyed my job, if not the seperations from my family and some of the people I was forced to work with. I saw parts of the world most people don't even know exist, and got paid to do it.
I currently work for a major microchip manufacturer. They offered me this job thanks to the training the Navy gave me, and offered me a lot of money to come here, and I took it and ran like a bandit. I work with advanced Lithography tools, using lasers to print and measure the design for circuits so small, that thousands of them will fit in the paragraph at the end of this sentence. I also like this job, if not the time spent waiting for something to happen. Monotony sucks.
On that note, I'm also a full time college student. I'm going to finish the classes necessary to get my BS in Electrical Engineering. Yes, I am a geek. Deal with it.
Speaking of geek: I am one of those. My computer is kewl, and can run pretty much anything I want it too. I have the latest hardware, some of which my job was kind enough to provide me. Fringe bennies rule...Not only do I have just about all of the Star Wars books, I have them in digital format and saved to my PDA/phone to read when otherwise unable to entertain myself. I'm NOT a gamer, not my thing. Besides which, I think my wife would divorce me with a shovel if I got into WoW or something similar. I'm not lamenting my lack of gaming, I promise. I'm into coding webpages and forums and programming and electronic components that are 32 nanometers big. I geek, therefore I am!
I am sarcastic. Very. If it's possible to turn something in to sarcastic humor, I'm the one most likely to do it. Usually, I come up with three or four options to blurt out, and usually have to decide which one to use. It often involves what can only be described as "Crotch Humor," and I am pretty unrepentant about it. Quite frankly, if you don't like my sense of humor, don't let the doorknob get stuck on your way out the door.
I have things I believe in, and wish I could change. I am rooted in reality enough that, however much I may wish otherwise, I can't change a whole lot. So I spend my time on things that I can effect, and try not to spend too much time beating myself up over things I can't. I'm active in my the PTA for my son's school. I marched with my wife's advocacy organization to promote awareness of sexual assault to the community. I help out where I can do something that will actually help.
I have no problem with the various sexualities, at one time I even dealt with my own bisexuality. I have no overall problem with gay marriage as an idea, but I don't agree with forcing it on any other group if that's not their beliefs, so I'm not going to support laws to make Catholic priests perform ceremonies. As for what people do in their own bedrooms, if they didn't invite you in, stay the hell out. If all participating parties WANT a piece of whatever is going on, then by all means let them have their fun, just make sure they clean up their own mess.
I have no problem with any of the races as a whole. If I had to claim prejudice against any particular set of people, it would have to be stupid people. Otherwise, I don't want to hear it. On the same note, I don't happen to think any negative comment or attack against anyone is racially motivated, unless it ACTUALLY is. Use a racial slur, yep, you're a bigot. Calling someone lazy is not racially motivated by itself. I know this because I can be pretty lazy when I want to be, and it has nothing to do with my race, it has everything to do with the fact that some days I just don't give a shit.
If I'm talking seriously about something, I will usually make sure I know what I'm talking about. I will find a reputable source or four, do my best to read up on all aspects of the subject matter, and go from there. If you're going to tell me I'm wrong, you better have some pretty good proof, logical reasonings, and reasonable arguments. Otherwise I'm going to prove to any and all interested parties that you are, truly, an idiot. Then I'm going to mock you for it. I am well read, and continue to do so until either I die or my eyes fall out. Likewise, if I'm not sure about the facts or history of something, I will say so, and go do my research and come back. But I'll at least tell you so.
Other things that have to do with me will be added as I get to it, can be read about in my interest list, or on my entries. If you see something that interests you, feel free to friend me; I'm likely to friend you back, at least to get to know you. Otherwise, why are you still here?
